Integrated Packaging Group has a clear focus on innovation, sustainability, and a genuine commitment to social and ethical responsibility. As well as proudly partnering with REDcycle and its long-standing voluntary membership with Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO), IPG’s Integrated Recycling (IR) business plays the integral part in closing the sustainability loop and improving economic and environmental goals simultaneously.
Stephen Webster, General Manager of Integrated Recycling, said IR turns plastics that have served their primary purpose into an innovative second life range of products, including many of the films made by the Integrated Packaging Group – proving, as Stephen says, that “waste no longer means landfill”.
“A simple idea of taking grape vine covers and turning them into vine posts has grown into the Envire® range that includes outdoor furniture, boardwalks, retaining walls, fencing and specialty structural products”
The Envire® range has a design life of 40 years and will save trees, use less energy than products manufactured from steel or concrete and diverts waste from landfill. This exclusive range is made from a patented mix that is resistant to environmental degradation caused by termites, fungal rot, water and the sun. The Envire range is non-toxic and doesn’t leach.
Integrated Recycling has created another solution that has caught the attention of governments around Australia. IR includes waste plastics from Mildura farmers into Duratrack® recycled plastic railway sleepers. The Duratrack sleeper is a sustainable innovation that outperforms traditional timber sleepers, uses waste plastic that would otherwise go to landfill and saves our natural timber resources. Duratrack sleepers have a life cycle about 3-4 times longer than timber and results in lower maintenance costs.
“The Duratrack sleeper project is a great example of how government, industry, universities and rail authorities can work together to create a circular economy. The formulation for the sleepers includes a mix of hard and soft plastics, as well as some wood fibres. This means they are resistant to environmental damage, which can cause rot and track misalignment in timber sleepers. We know that plastic doesn’t deteriorate easily, so Duratrack harnesses this key feature of plastic to create a new, valuable purpose for problematic waste”
